Hello all! Thought I'd post something here specifically for Dreamwidth. I talked with a lot of old LJ folks at MISTI and I guess the consensus is abandon ship. Some of us stuck it out through various previous exoduses and Strikethrough, Boldthrough, and so on, which is why I set up this mirror to my LJ so many years ago.

My goal is to repost everything here that is only on LJ. There is some stuff I am not sure I want to have on AO3 right now given my current profile as a pro writer, specifically the non-con/dub-con and Malfoycest. But I also don't want it to disappear from the Internet forever if LJ starts deleting it. The fabulous ladies of the Snarry Suite at MISTI-Con pretty much hammered on me not to let anything disappear. :-) (Thanks [personal profile] dementordelta, [personal profile] lilyseyes, and [personal profile] alisanne!)

I did an import of all the same friends names from LJ to here a few years back but anyone more recent I'll still have to go an find. If you find me here, friend and I'll friend back!

The online reservation system is open for hotel reservations for Ascendio!

Details are here: http://ascendio2012.dreamwidth.org/1041.html

The con hotel is the Loews Portofino Bay at Universal, home of the Harry Potter theme park.
The con is July 12-15, 2012 in Orlando, FL.

In fact, join the Ascendio Dreamwidth community here: [community profile] ascendio2012

Heidi says online registration for the con is already almost at 200 people — and the first 200 to register get the $25 off “early bird” discount. So to register for the con visit here: http://hp2012.org/?page_id=131

There are single-day passes as well as full packages and the “Merlin’s Circle” packages. Details are forthcoming later about Night of A Thousand Wizards (inside theme park) and other events to add on, I believe.

This is no doubt motivated by the fact that I really really MISSED MY HARRY POTTER PEEPS SO MUCH since I couldn’t be at Infinitus, as well as how many fabulous things I heard about Sectus when it happened in the UK… but I just bought my registration to DiaCon Alley.

It’s a Harry Potter convention happening in Canterbury in the UK, at the University of Kent, so it’s quite affordable, it seems! I just paid for my room, registration, ball ticket, and a T-shirt and it came to a total of $267 in US dollars. The rooms are at the university and include breakfast! And the registration includes a ticket to a special fan-only showing of the final installment of the HP films.

On top of that, it appears from looking at the con website that a couple of my favorite people in fandom (including [livejournal.com profile] melusinahp and [livejournal.com profile] son_of_darkness, are on the committee.

Also, a 5 pound early bird discount applies if you register before July 21st, so I jumped on it.

I’m planning on going to Ascendio, too, but it isn’t until 2012!

Edit: They also have a Livejournal community, for those on LJ: http://community.livejournal.com/diacon_alley/

So, I totally failed to score one of the neat Book Seven tote bags that I saw a lot of people carrying around at Book Expo America. I tried. I really did. But, oh well. You have to be in the right place at the right time to get some of these freebies.

I did pick up some Harry Potter bookmarks though, that I guess they have been sending to bookstores, in a series of seven (of course). They had only the first four, but each one has a question on it. The questions really crack me up, especially #4, which I cannot help but think must be a shout out to shippers!! (Links go to the scanned in graphics)

1. Who will live, who will die?
2. Is Snape good or evil?
3. Will Hogwarts reopen?
4. Who ends up with whom?

P.S. NO SPOILERS. as in there are none, and I would appreciate having none. Thx!

So, I'm in the publishing industry so the following news tidbit landed in my work email today from PW Daily:

Wait till the Midnight Hour
We knew Harry's swan song would be special, but it's going to be downright electrifying for 1700 lucky fans who will have the chance to meet J.K. Rowling and have their copy of Deathly Hallows signed at a publication party called "J.K. Rowling and the Midnight Signing." The author will make her appearance at London's Natural History Museum at the stroke of midnight on July 21. The first 500 randomly selected winners will attend Rowling's midnight reading. The subsequent signing is expected to last until dawn. Each ticket holder will receive a free copy of the book from Bloomsbury. Between May 23 and June 11, fans may apply for free tickets to the event on Bloomsbury's Web site. (http://email.publishersweekly.com/cgi-bin2/DM/y/hv1Y0HsJJb0OYa0DFf40EH)

But lest Stateside Potterphiles feel left out, Scholastic has announced a sweepstakes in which seven winners will receive the prize of free roundtrip airfare and a three-night stay for two in London, and, of course, a free copy of the book—to attend Rowling's midnight reading/signing. U.S. winners will be selected by a random drawing and entries (open to fans under 21 years of age) must be received by June 15 either via the Web site (http://email.publishersweekly.com/cgi-bin2/DM/y/hv1Y0HsJJb0OYa0DFf50EI), or snail mail: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Sweepstakes, Scholastic Inc., 557 Broadway, New York, N.Y. 10012.

If, like me, you're over 21, better adopt to enter. :)
