slow_satisfaction_150pxOh my goodness, just got the fabulous news that SLOW SATISFACTION, the culmination of the Struck by Lightning Trilogy, is a finalist in the Passionate Plume Awards! These are the annual awards given by the Passionate Ink chapter of the RWA, the specialty chapter (originally founded by Sylvia Day!) for writers of erotica and erotic romance. So this is quite an honor, for this book to be recognized within the erotic romance realm this way. The book is a finalist in the Contemporary category.

It’s also making me happy how the people who loved the book have REALLY LOVED IT.

For those who missed the video chat I did last night to celebrate the launch of Slow Satisfaction, it’s now on YouTube! It’s one hour, includes me answering questions from readers, talking about my upcoming projects, talking about BDSM and romance, and at the very end I read a somewhat non-spoilery erotic snippet.

slow_satisfaction_150pxWhew! It’s Day One of the Slow Satisfaction Blog Tour and there are a LOT of places you can read about the book, me, and enter to win copies:

Two hot excerpts (warning: spoilers) along with giveaways for 10 sets of autographed books (all three in the series!) are at Katiebab’s Babbling About Books and at Smut and Bon Bons.

And then a third excerpt (warning: spoilers) is up on a plethora of blogs. Thanks to the Mixed Emotions Book Blog, My Book Filled Life, Deal Sharing Aunt, Sapphyria’s Steamy Reviews, Confessions of a Librarian in Training, Buttontapper Press, and Jersey Girl Sizzling Reviews for blitzing the excerpt on launch day!

Eager Reader posted the first review!
“Soooo thankful that I got my hands on this book a little bit early since this has become one of my favorite series to date. We have been taken on such a roller coaster and the games that they play are so intricate that I don’t know about anyone else, but I’ve been really excited to see where it goes… while i’m sad that the trilogy is over, I’m really happy with how it went!”

And I wrote a guest blog for Rainy Day Reviews:

“I wanted to write a story about a kinky billionaire because I feel some of the books out there are, well, giving kinky billionaires a bad name.”

Read my guest blog on why I wrote Slow Satisfaction: BookjunkieMom’s Rainy Day Reviews.

Many more blogs, contests, and interviews are coming in the next 14 days!

Oh, also, did you see that the UK/Australia/NZ ebook editions of all three Struck by Lightning books launched today, too? From Piatkus Entice, an imprint of Little, Brown UK! Check it out: http://www.piatkusentice.co.uk/ebooks/slow-surrender/

So, if you’ve been following any of my posts over the past year about my recent romance series from Grand Central Publishing, you’ve seen the covers feature a “pearl necklace” theme (hur hur, it’s okay, you can laugh about the double meaning…). Today I’m going to explore a little bit of the world of cover design in mass market romance publishing. I love my covers–I think they’re sensual and beautiful, but there’s so much more going on here for the publisher than merely making something beautiful. There are some trends happening, and I’ll explore them below with copious graphics.

So at 12:01am on January 28th my book Slow Seduction went live on Amazon and other bookselling sites, and I know it has been shipping to the physical bookstores, too! The paperback, ebook, and audiobook all launched at the same time.

Meanwhile, this has resulted in a curious oddity! Slow Seduction is book 2 of a trilogy. 24 hours after release, it is at #55 on the Amazon Erotica Bestsellers list. However, take a look (photo under the cut) at what book is at #50 on the SAME LIST. Yes, book 3 of the trilogy which won’t be out until August. I think that means a lot of people read book 2 in the past 24 hours and boom, bought book 3 immediately!! I hope that’s what it means, anyway.

It’s a little bit of a bummer to see the one-star reviews from people who are just tired of trilogies. Trust me, I commiserate, and I originally pitched this as one book. But the publisher wanted three books and the continued success of many erotic romance trilogies seems to prove there’s a large readership that clearly enjoys the longer form. I enjoyed getting to write a longer, more complex story, with more emotional twists than a single novel would sustain. I feel like I wish I could apologize to those people leaving the one-star reviews, but at the same time I feel a little like if they don’t like trilogies, why buy them and then complain about them…? The industry has gone this direction and I don’t think the trend is going to stop anytime soon.

All I can do is hope that the voices of people who did enjoy the book outweigh the voices of those who didn’t. To try to encourage folks to spread the word, I’m going to continue offering to send the special hot bonus scene from James’s point of view to anyone who emails me any of the following: 1) a screencap of their review on Amazon or Goodreads, 2) a screencap of them recommended it on Twitter, Facebook, G+, blog, or any other social media, 3) photo of yourself with your copy of the book (or on your Kindle/ereader), 4) photo of YOUR PET with the book, or 5) photo of the book on sale in the wild! My publisher is stoking the fires, getting people psyched up for the release of Slow Seduction on January 28th, so they have a blog tour going on with me and three other authors they publish (Jodi Ellen Malpas, CC Gibbs, Kate McKinley).

One of the tasks they had us do was we each picked a prompt (feather! threesome! ice cube! lace!) and then we each had to write a scene that combined all four elements.

Mine is now up for your reading pleasure at Night Owl Reviews, and it features two of the important characters Karina meets in Slow Seduction when she goes to England, a dom named Damon George and a sub named Juney.

Here are my two picks for people who could play these two characters in a movie. Damon is a bit of a playboy, a young Greek tycoon who is dominant in the bedroom and in life, and Juney is a fun-loving British gal who has discovered the world of kinky sex and all it has to offer.

Kostas Martakis and Adele could be cast as Damon and Juney in a film of Slow Seduction!

Read the exclusive new scene with them here at Night owl Romance.

Damon and Juney also appear in the teaser scene right here on ceciliatan.com.

I just got the news that Slow Surrender and Slow Seduction (book 2 in the series), have been picked up by Dutch-language publisher Bruna! I don’t have any news about when they will be out, though.

In other news, I finally finished writing Slow Satisfaction, the third and final book in the series. There were so many loose ends I wanted to tie up that it took me longer to write the last four chapters of the book than it did to write the entirety of book 2! It’s with my editor now and I’ll soon find out if she likes the way I brought it all in for a landing.

Last bit of news, Apple now has some kind of an ibookstore widget thing, I’m testing it out on my home site:

In the Amazing and Wonderful Things that Happened Today Department: I discovered that RT Book Reviews, the biggest, most influential romance review entity, posted an “extended review” of Slow Surrender. They had already printed a short take in the magazine, a rave, so it really blew me away to see this!!

“Slow Surrender made me love the billionaire Dom again and you should definitely check out this perfect example of everything this subgenre should be.”

“Karina is no blushing ingenue. Finally — finally! — we’re given a heroine who’s willing to go along on this adventure, and without the Nervous Nellie nail-biting and hair-twirling the genre seems to be plagued with.”

“As for James, he escapes the confines of the controlling Dom construct that has so many of these “heroes” veering from Domination into downright abuse.”

“It’s lush and erotic without devolving into that weird place where sex sometimes becomes too graphic, and best of all, the sex actually advances the plot. Each sex scene is a logical stepping stone to the growth of this relationship between these two people.”

“I loved, loved Slow Surrender and am waiting on pins and needles for book two, Slow Seduction to come out.” Yay! So says Sandiebuck over at Night Owl Reviews, who not only gave Slow Surrender 5 stars, she made it a Reviewer Top Pick!

“This was another brilliant outing from Cecilia Tan,” she writes. “As usual, her characters are full of life and emotion, and so believable. Definitely a keeper!!!”

This is it! SLOW SURRENDER launches today in paperback! Yeahhhh!!!

So, I started doing this when the ebook came out, and I’m going to keep it up until September 1st! Basically, help me spread the word about the book Slow Surrender, and I’ll reward you with a special erotic bonus scene from James’s point of view.

In fact, James wouldn’t settle for merely describing a sex scene. He wrote a whole treatise on the nature of sex and desire. It’s a nine-page ebook, “James on THE ART OF LOVE,” which I have as PDF, epub, or mobi.

How do you get the bonus ebook? Trade me a screencap or photo of any of the following by emailing it to ctan.writer @ gmail.com, and let me know which format you want (PDF/mobi/epub) and I’ll email you back the file!

All the following are valid in trade:
* screencap of your review of the book on Goodreads or Amazon
* screencap of your review or recommendation of the book to your friends on Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook, Livejournal, or any other social network, really!
* photo of the paperback on sale in your local bookstore (or Target!)
* photo of your copy of the paperback with your cat or other pet
* photo of yourself with the book wearing pearls! (either you or the book can be wearing the pearls…)

(Sample “book and pearls selfie”…)

But wait, there’s more! A SECOND special incentive…

Whew. It’s been a busy year so far, but the good news is that health-wise I am really starting to bounce back. tl:dr, last year I was severely anemic, was finally diagnosed in November, by December my iron levels were back up but I still have occasional crashes. This month is the first time I’ve really felt mostly like myself in close to two years!

Having more energy means I’m keeping up with my writing commitments better. I’m in the middle of writing the third book in a BDSM billionaire romance trilogy for Hachette/Grand Central Publishing/Forever, the Struck by Lightning trilogy. The first book, Slow Surrender, is out in ebook now and the paperback comes August 5th!

Speaking of which, there’s a Goodreads giveaway for the book going on right now. If you’re on Goodreads, check it out here: http://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/show/55415-slow-surrender

They’re giving away 10 copies of the book.

Meanwhile, I’m writing book 3, Slow Satisfaction

Slow Surrender CoverHelp Slow Surrender make it into the top 40 on the Kindle erotica bestseller list and I’ll reward you with an exclusive erotic scene between Karina and James!

Slow Seduction, the next book in the series, is slated for release in January 2014. I know that feels like a long time to wait, so I have been kicking around the idea of writing some special scenes to tide people over until then. But I didn’t just want to post them for anyone to read. I want them to be for the folks who will really love the characters.

Here’s how it works. I’ll email the special scene to ANYONE* who emails me a screen capture/photo of yourself recommending Slow Surrender to your friends by linking to either the Amazon page (http://amzn.com/B00B73T1YU) or the sample chapter on my site (http://blog.ceciliatan.com/?page_id=1173) on any of the following sites:

So if you’ve been following any of my social media, you probably know that about a month ago, my BDSM erotic romance novel, SLOW SURRENDER, was published by Hachette/Grand Central Publishing in ebook form (with paperback to follow in August).

Today I checked the book’s Amazon page for new reviews and noticed not only had the book’s overall Amazon ranking gone up, the book has climbed its way onto the Kindle Erotica bestsellers list! It was at #79 of the top 100 when I looked. If you’re curious, this is what that looks like: (you can’t hear me squeeeing very loudly, you can just look…)

Slow Surrender CoverSo, Slow Surrender is going live this coming week, and I’m trying to get my act together on an online chat. Should I do it with Google Hangouts, Livestream, uStream, or a service like Shindig?

Shindig is offering to host me, but my publicist says they’ve been disappointed so far with the technology not working as well as needed, and suggested Google Hangouts instead. I did a Google Hangout last year when the Daron Kickstarter was going, and only had a few people there “live” but a lot of people watched the video later. We’ve done a few for writers groups, though, and sometimes it’s very buggy. So I’m not sure on a Google hangout either.

Livestream and uStream both seem pretty reliable but for people to “chat” with me they’d have to type in their questions to an IM window rather than it being live video. OTOH, maybe for an erotic book that’s preferable? Thoughts? Ideas? Advice?
