The passage leading up to this is at the end of chapter five. And yes, we've been working up to this moment for five whole chapters: "They went out by the lake, and took turns flying. Draco turned some neat loops and Harry found himself trying them on his next go, and on it went until the wind got too chill in their ears. Harry had always felt his best while flying, as if his cares were left behind on the ground, as if who he was could not keep up with his flight. He took one last loop-de-loop in the setting sun and then headed back toward Draco. He swooped down, intending to come to a stop right in front of him, but again he overestimated the braking charm and stumbled a few feet, Draco catching him as they collided."
Kissing ensues, a la "I've wanted to do this since Truth or Dare," Harry said... He lowered his head again, this time tasting Draco's ragged breath as he brushed his mouth over his--once, twice, three times--until Draco was struggling to rise up and meet him.
It took me a full five minutes to stop squeeing over this long enough to actually write a reasonable reply to the artist, who should feel quite proud that her art can make someone like me lose words. I finally got some words together so I could gush properly. Now it's been a full hour and so I can even string together a full sentence or two about it.
Or maybe not. Harry's hand on Draco's, the positioning of their lips, the wisps of hair, Harry's posture... I give up, back to squeeeeeeeeeeeing!
Two notes from the artist: "Sorry it took me so long. I got really frustrated with my proportions and whatnot and finally scrapped the whole thing and started over. I tried a different style with this. I've seen a lot of fanartists use it (cough...reallycorking ...who's amazing) and I wanted to see if I could do it, too.
"The robes were... giving me trouble so I kind of made an executive decision and decided that you'd 'forgotten' to mention that they actually removed their robes in the process. *grins sheepishly*. So they're wearing what I figured they might be under their robes."
I say, robes, schmobes, it's excellent the way it is and I don't miss them. Their faces and the emotion captured are what really matter to me.
I'm out of adjectives now and it's time for you folks to add some.
(Oh and yeah, if you haven't read Tempus and want to, see the links in my reply below...!)
