"Severus, it is time."

McGonagall's voice. Headmistress, now, thanks to him. Severus did not want to think about the long scroll the grim reaper held with the names of those sacrificed to defeat the Dark Lord.

Severus fussed with his formal robes but knew he looked as forbidding and severe as ever. Restored to society by his heroism. Restored to dignity.

But not grace.

"I cannot do it, Minerva." He stilled his hands.

"Please, Severus. You were the last to see him alive..."

"No. I'll grieve in my own way." Alone.

Harry would never again be the Boy Who Lived.
