Magic U crossover with Amber…

So, Deb Atwood (aka Tryslora on LJ, DW, etc…), a terrific writer and one of my beta-readers on the Magic University books, wrote a crossover fanfic story in which Alex from MagicU meets up with Random from Roger Zelazny’s Amber books. Zelazny was one of my early and persistent influences on my writing, and I’ve re-read the Amber series more times than I can count. (And maybe it isn’t a coincidence my life-partner of 20 years is named corwin…)

Anyway! How awesome. Yes, I do allow fanfic in my universe. Especially when it’s this good. The one warning is if you haven’t read Book 4 of MagicU yet, this has spoilers in it. It’s a smart little fic, and not-smutty:

Once I finally get around to read Magic U, I HAVE to read this. Amber is one of my huge influences too, I've read it so many times and am in awe of Zelazny's writing style. He's also responsible for my favourite opening line of all time, the one I wish I'd written *G*

(I always think of Amber when you mention your partner *G* At the very least to go "that is such a great name to have".)

Well and corwin isn't his real name, but his friends tagged him with it back in the 1980s when they were all reading the Amber books. He's much more of a corwin than the name his parents gave him (and who are the only people who still call him by the old name...)

That doesn't make it less awesome, really. Having yourself named after Corwin of Amber by your friends is a good thing in my book.
(I also get a bit envious at his cooking skills, judging by your tweets.)

Yes, he's turned into quite the gourmet chef. It means none of us can ever successfully diet anymore. Thank goodness I took off 20 pounds 3 years ago, because now I've been gradually packing them back on... >.> Can't say I'm really the least bit sorry about this state of affairs. :D :D
