Gush-worthy H/D fic rec

Just read this fic by dicta_contrion that was originally in the HP Silencio fest and goddman is is great. Short, beautiful and hypnotic writing, and hot.

HP Reunion! What it was like when I started this journal.....

Here's what I wrote in my very first post on LiveJournal, on March 10 2006:

"I've resisted doing this for years. Years, I tell you. I already have an online journal on my personal web site, which I started in 1996, long before LJ came into existence, and I will keep updating that. I kept telling myself I didn't WANT an Lj. I especially did not want to get sucked into READING LJ.

But that was before I became obsessed with reading and writing Harry Potter fanfic.

So this journal is primarily for interfacing with the HP fanfic world."

What I didn't quite explain was that I had already been sucked into reading fanfic on LJ for quite some time earlier (about a year) and I had been leaving anonymous comments on jordangrant's Cambiare Podentes anonymously for quite a while. I would sign the comments but since I didn't have a journal they were "anon" comments. Eventually it was just easier to have a journal!

And that's when I went down the rabbit hole. The day I created this journal. At the time I thought I was a Ravenclaw and I thought my OTP was Snarry. But I also wrote this:

"Lately I find myself writing more about Draco, who in HBP went from being a plot-device and a foil for Harry to having his own character, backstory, and motivations. Intriguing. Keeping in character and sticking closely to the canon are fun for me and what I enjoy in what I read, too."

The very next day I started writing a fic from Draco's point of view. The more I delved into it the more convinced I became that I had been misjudging him for most of the series, and that it would only take a smidgen of maturity for Draco to become a redeemable character. I became so obsessed with figuring out what could possibly be going on in his mind, and how the events of Half-Blood Prince would affect him, that ultimately Draco became my fanfic muse.

That was back when I was in denial of my own Slytherin nature, though! In fact, I was so in denial about it, that look what I wrote about that first Draco fic, which was called "By Any Other Name." I wrote, "This is my first fanfic on LJ, and I'm a little shocked I decided to start with something that gets quite brutal, which is a departure from my usual fare, somewhat. Not every story I write will be this packed with cruelty and nonconsensual situations (not every story will be so packed with Slytherins...)"

Little did I know that writing darkfic packed with Slytherins would become my stock in trade!! (With occasional fluff and crack thrown in for variety's sake...)
